The Area

Richards Castle is a picturesque rural village located on the Shropshire/Herefordshire borders, just a short distance from the popular medieval market town of Ludlow. The village offers fantastic walking and equestrian opportunities with the Mortimer Forest & Haye Park on its doorstep and a well served village Public House.

Ludlow offers a wealth of amenities and facilities including Primary and Secondary schooling, leisure and sporting opportunities, supermarkets, public transport links and delightful medieval markets, antiques shops and cafés. The prestigious Moor Park private school is less than one mile away.

The Property

Hanway Lodge is a commanding period residence with a wealth of character and history, idyllically located on the fringes of the popular village of Richards Castle, and just a stones throw from Moor Park and the medieval market town of Ludlow which is renowned for its culture, food and boutiques.

The property is situated in a semi-rural position, affording fine views over the nearby rolling South Shropshire countryside and is accessed via private drive to the parking area. The property has long local history and was acquired by Major Foster in the late 1800s from the Salway Family to become part of the Greater Moor Park Estate.

The new All Saints Church in Richards Castle was erected in memory of Major Fosters passing and there are indeed many local plaques and artworks linking the families. Lord Lucius William OBrien Inchiquin would later marry Major Fosters daughter to bring the property in to the current family ownership whereby it is on the market for the first time in memory.

Phaedrig Inchiquin would inherit the Estate in modern times and Hanway Lodge has mainly been tenanted by Estate Workers until Lord and Lady Inchiquin took full time residence in the 1950's. Hanway Lodge offers the opportunity for a new era of history and the local area offers many opportunities such as equestrian pursuits, walking, mountain biking and the prestigious Moor Park Private School is less than one mile away.

The property itself occupies a private location and offers large family-oriented rooms and is of traditional construction for the area, with the benefit of an unconverted annexe and detached former stable block for working horses. The property requires some modernisation yet retains the wealth of character features which have held the property in such historic stead.
